Spring is in the air!
Hooray, I’ve finally gotten some time to make an update! Spring is finally here after a long, long winter. NJ got hit with 3 or 4 really big snowstorms and we broke our record from 1996 (when I was just a wee girl!). I learned to snowboard this winter, which was awesome and I love it! And I’ve finally gotten back to working on my fiber projects.

My Little Experiment
Fair warning: This post will be LONG.
Spinning
Ok, I mentioned in my last post that I would be experimenting with a spin project. I received this gorgeous painted roving from a friend. The roving is from Sunshine Yarns and was in the colorway Lockhart, which was beautiful! But not my style, SO I decided that I would card the roving on my drum carder to attempt to make a more heathered color.

Christmas knitting and trying to get my spin back
My holiday knits are coming along nicely, I’m about halfway done. I’m hoping that I’ll be done in time to make ornaments to use as tags on presents, buuuut I’m not sure if that’s happening or not.
This week I’ve been working on getting back into the “spin” of things. My fiber addiction is slowly creeping back up on me and my wheel has been calling...

I should re-title this Failblog...
Life’s a whirlwind, what can I say?
On the knitting front: Christmas projects are in full swing. My poor Little Lace Vest has been put aside, halfway finished, until I can get these Christmas knits out of the way. So far the status is 1/14 complete, sooo 1 down, 13 to go. I have 5 of those started - 2 hats, a little girl’s cropped vest, a cowl and a neck wrap. I’m halfway done...

Even if you stand still, the world won't
So much can change in two months, it’s amazing! Alright, so I haven’t done half of the things I said I would do on that summary list a while back… and I probably won’t because classes just started up again this week and I’m lazy lol. I also just got back (well, 2 weeks ago we got back….) from my Alaskan Cruise vacation which was seriously PHENOMENAL!!! Go to...

Summaries: The teasers of life.
I don’t actually have time to blog about everything I should have written about in the last month. Fail, Mary, FAIL. So, instead for now, I’ll give you a tiny summary of what’s been going on at the Platformnine HQ.
May’s Phat Fiber box came. It was awesome, as usual. I am now addicted to Milk fiber, thanks Roo! I will have a review post up soon… I swears...

Crafty Title is Crafty.
I’ve been a busy bee again! I don’t know why I always say that, since I’m never not being a busy bee haha! While I’ve been hammering out my May samples for the PhatFiber Box (see pictures below for a preview of samples), I’ve also been finishing up my first, for-realz-actually-sat-down-and-did-it knitwear. Nothing terribly exciting (well, it is to me), just a cute...

April Phat Fiber Sampler Box!
When I saw on the Rav Phat fiber group that some of the contributors started to get their boxes I bolted for my mailbox! Sadly, it wasn’t there yet :c It finally arrived at 4:40PM!!! My mail was SOOOO late today! Anyway, I brought the box in, but I couldn’t crack into just yet - we sat down to a really early dinner today.
As soon as I finished eating I ran up to my room and grabbed...

What I deal with from day to day
My Poppop came home last night! He’s much better now that they have him on steroids!
I was excited to get my drum carder last week (Fancy Kitten Drum Carder), so I took out my bag of Cotswold curls (poor man’s mohair). I leave my bag unattended for literally two seconds, and THIS is what happened! I can’t leave her alone with any of my fiber or knitting! She just lays in...

Where does the time go?
I have had a really rough time over the last few weeks. First, it was my birthday, which always brings on the heart palpitations (of the bad variety) and the fear of growing up and growing older - thoughts of my bills and such running frantic through my head. And my friend brought me the cottontails. Sadly, the gimpy one didn’t make it through his amputation operation :c Then a week later,...

Bunny Blues
This week has had some definite ups and downs. At the beginning of the week it was my 20th birthday. My mom took me out to Pei Wei for lunch. My friend Kait was supposed to sleep over Tuesday night, and that’s when all of the trouble started :c
Before coming over, Kait called to see if I could rehabilitate some rabbits that her cat had attacked. One was completely healthy, just in shock,...

Phat Fiber Sampler!
I’m so excited! I’m contributing a huge variety of samples to April’s box (themed “Green” - color/eco-friendly). Yesterday I designed and printed the project cards and recipe cards and packaged them. Today I dyed the roving that I’m giving and the roving I’m spinning for my handspun samples - that’s all drying now. I’m calling the colorway...

Fresh from the dyepot
I spent the better part of yesterday dyeing two skeins. One is for a swap, so I can’t show you :c The other I’m considering selling because my stash is getting pretty sizable (I need to go buy more storage today!) and I also have no clue what to use it for.

New handspun
It’s true what they say about the fifth time’s the charm. Most people have said that their 5th skein is the best. That hold’s true for mine! Here’s what I’ve done for the last two weeks.
“Candy Cane Lane”; 185 yds worsted weight 100% Merino - My sister asked for a beret from this. I have no idea why, lol. I’m going to knit a swatch from it...

My First Yarn (because I'm the sentimental type)
When I first tried my kiwi after putting it together I was having a bit of trouble between getting the tension right and reminding myself to treadle slower. Today it sort of just clicked and I spun some nice fingering weight corriedale. 60.5 yards of it!! Now, I know that to experienced spinners that’s nothing, but I’m happy! It made the cutest little hank, too! It’s about an...

Meet Einin!
Whew! We got a whole foot of snow yesterday! That’s the most we’ve gotten in about two years. I wish I did live in Scotland, because I bet the winters there are absolutely gorgeous. I love winter, it’s my favorite season. I figured with the way the climate’s been the last few years that we’d have one big storm - winter’s last stand - before Spring arrives....

Pattern: Recessionista; Recycled
For Christmas I made a lot of Swatch Bangles for the girls in my family. I thought to myself, ‘what a clever and useful pattern’ - especially since these days I’m living vicariously paycheck to paycheck.
Then I looked at my wardrobe and wondered what else I could recycle and refresh. I saw my impressive collection of headbands hanging by my mirror and the lightbulb went off in...

New Business Cards!
I spent most of today designing my new business cards! I’m really excited about them, and I think they’ve turned out really nice :D I was making them and then I was thinking, “Hey… my name is Mary, and I’m drawing this sheep. My slogan should totally be Mary Had a Little Lamb!”

Pop-u-lar (I know about popular)
I found out my wheel is shipping from WA, which is kind of a bummer, but it should be here Monday. I just got the mail because no one brought it in today and there was like a million packages for me!! One was the super perfect yarn I bought for my spoilee, Vi, one was a book I bought, one was my Dead Like Me box set and movie, and the last (and best) one was my new drum carders!! All the way from...

Pattern: 15 Minute iPod Cases
Because I’m a huge procrastinator, I’m still working down to the wire here with my Christmas presents. I had decided today to try to whip up some fast ski hats for my brothers, since we’re going on a family ski trip this weekend. The yarn I had grabbed at the store didn’t mix well with the pattern I was halfway through, so I frogged the hats and decided to make them some...

Baby Projects
I’m so excited that my best friend’s sister is having her baby soon! The shower is at the end of this month and I’m making the baby yeti jacket, matching monster booties, and Candi Jensen’s suede booties! So far I only have the back of the baby jacket done. I’m going to finish (hopefully) the jacket and the monster booties tomorrow and Monday.
I really want to make...
